International Women’s Hackathon

11/15/2014 @ 7:30 am - 10:00 pm

The International Women’s Hackathon (IWH) is part of Microsoft Research’s effort in getting more young women in the Computer Science field because of the lack thereof. This particular IWH is hosted by the Women in Information and Computer Sciences (WICS) Club at the University of California, Irvine.

This event is open to anyone 16+. Young women in Computer Science are encouraged to attend so this can kickstart then hackathon experience by getting more exposure in working on programming in projects outside of class. We will be capping the event at 100 attendees, so if you are sure you can make it, make sure to register through this Eventbrite ASAP.

Attendees can form groups of 3-4 people to work on a new project together. If you don’t have a group, we will be making groups before the hackathon begins. It’s a good idea to think of some ideas for projects you’re interested in working on. There will also be mentors to assist with projects as needed.

Everyone will be presenting their projects at the end of the day. There will be prizes for first, second, and third place. However, don’t let that deter you from attending. This will be a very great experience for newcomers to learn from, and there will be free swag for everyone!
