Community Outreach
WICS is committed to helping students learn about computing. To this end, Outreach Committee continues to create curriculum and gather resources geared towards encouraging underrepresented minorities to explore STEM. We host both day-long and multi-day workshops (Hour of Code, AspireIT) for middle school girls and lead various programs for K–12 and college students.

We have been awarded grants from Google and the National Center for Women and Information (NCWIT) to support and lead outreach programs that inspire students to explore computing.

Scratch-a-thon 2026
6th–8th grade students from El Sol Academy for a 2-day Scratch workshop. Students learned coding fundamentals, built their own games or stories, and showcased their projects.

NetWICS 2023
Our first-ever NetWICS conference introduced high school girls to computer science career paths through talks on web development, UI/UX, and more.

IrisHacks 2023
In collaboration with PCWOC, we hosted a 2-day hackathon for beginner hackers from UCI, community colleges, and high schools. Students built projects from scratch and won prizes presented to a panel of judges.
